FITNESS  [fit-nis]

  1. the quality of being suitable to fulfill a particular role or task
  2. the state or condition of being physically sound and healthy, especially as the result of exercise and proper nutrition; a state of general mental and physical well-being
  3. the state of being suitably adapted to an environment
  4. an organisms ability to survive and reproduce in a particular environment

The definitions for the word fitness seem a bit odd to me.  Doesn’t fitness involve eating well, being physically active, and mentally strong?  Some definitions seem to think so, but not all.
Take #1, the quality of being suitable to fulfill a particular role or task.  Many individuals are well suited for their jobs, but does that mean they have established a level of fitness?  I guess you could say yes they established a fitness for their job, but does this really make sense?  The successful businessmen who work desk jobs, eat fast food all day, and never exercise cannot be considered fit.  Right?
Take #4, an organisms ability to survive and reproduce in a particular environment.  Yes we as a species are able to survive and reproduce in this environment.  Does this mean we have achieved a state of fitness?  How can this be when we are a nation who is constantly sick?  With the ongoing increase in obesity it has been said this is the first time in history the younger generations could die first.  I could write pages on the faults of our health care system but I’ll just say we need to better educate people to heal our bodies through lifestyle change.  Starting with nutrition and exercise.
As a nation we are not suitably adapted to the environment we have created.  We are a mess.  Prescription usage is at an all time high.  People have lost touch with who they really are and how their bodies work.  We have put so much trust in doctors we as individuals have forgotten the numerous resources available to heal ourselves.  I’m going to stop before this becomes a rant and instead switch to topic of this page, what fitness is to me: optimal functioning. When it comes to ailments like liver cancer one should definitely seek medical help.
I will first say I am not fit to the level I desire to be.  It’s coming though!  Yes I eat consciously and have for years but this is only a small piece of the puzzle.  There have been times in my life where I have been fit and embraced a lifestyle of fitness.  I always knew I wanted to embrace a healthy lifestyle once I started a family.  Yes I should have found the inner motivation to live this way continuously before having a child, but this did not happen for me.  I do not regret this.  Instead I am happy to know I am on a path of self empowerment.  Fitness is finding your inner strength through physical activity, proper nutrition, and a positive mental state, while having fun.  Yes fun!  There are times where being on this path is not going to be easy but the end result is rewarding.  Who can say they’ve reached optimal functioning?  A state of true health and happiness?  Not many.  
In this section of my website I plan to share my fitness activities as a way to loosely track my progress, share knowledge I learn, and to allow you to connect more with me.  I am a true Sagittarius; fiery, strong, honest, and a bit crazy.  In the past every time I take a step away from the path of fitness I start to lose track of what matters and focus on non-beneficial aspects of life.  My Sagittarius attitude starts to shine and not in the best of ways.  After much self reflection I know the person I can be, want to be, and will be.  As I progress through my CPT training and make something of this for myself, I will be sure to provide information both helpful and beneficial for those desiring to become something more.
And lastly here’s a thought: Eat vegetables, nuts and seeds, some meat, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar.  Keep food intake at levels that will support exercise but not body fat.  Drink plenty of water.  Perform a variety of physical activities to strengthen your entire body.. cardio, strength training, endurance training.  Stay creative changing up your routine as much as possible.  Find time to self reflect and think positive thoughts.
