As we were grocery shopping this past weekend I noticed a new green in the store, komatsuna. By the name I knew it was of the Asian variety and Josh and I do love our Asian greens. So we bought a bunch. It was cheap too. Komatsuna is a Japanese leafy vegetable. Apparently it is often called Japanese Mustard Spinach, why I could not tell you. With no great plans on what to do with it we kept it simple sautéing it in some butter and Garlic Gold nuggets. The flavor is mild and the stems have an awesome crunch. I’d say it’s very similar to tatsoi. If you enjoy your greens I’d recommend buying a bunch and adding it to a stir-fry. For the rest of the meal I sautéed some broccolini, onion, and mushrooms, added a jar of vodka sauce, and served it with some quinoa elbows.
