Cottage Cheese


For me cottage cheese is a food in the weird category.  Before I was ingredient conscious I ate it on occasion always enjoying it when I did.  Breakstone’s was the brand available and throughout college I enjoyed it as a topping on Triscuits.  Something about those salty flaky crackers paired deliciously with cottage cheese.  I have tried many other brands of cottage cheese since then and they always have some sort of mild funny taste.  I’ll use them in cooking (something like enchilada filling) but I don’t eat them plain.  Well lucky for me I noticed Whole Foods was carrying a new brand, Kalona, and decided to give it a try.  This organic cream top cottage cheese is heaven in my mouth!  Josh can agree with me on this one and he’s not a huge cottage cheese fan.  So if you see this deliciousness in the store go for it and try it.  It’s another way to add some protein to your diet, 11 grams per serving!

Besides eating this cottage cheese plain here’s a few variations I enjoy:

  • Cottage Cheese
  • Blueberries or Strawberries
  • Banana, sliced
  • Almond Butter (or another nut butter)
  • Chia Seeds
  • Maple Syrup
